Are they on vacation right now?--it's 12/28/18 right now. Tried calling the other evening but no answer.?
Loved it! Def lives up to its title as a japanese soul food stop. My heart is so full after having their food. Quality customer service, adorable setting, and delicious food make for a great time.
MoreBeen coming here 10 years. This place is so good, haven't ordered anything we did not like, but our go to is sashimi and tuna poki bowls. I get 1.5 servings! Place is so cozy and the family that runs it is super nice!
MoreWe have been going to this restaurants for over 20 years. Gary and his wife, Yuka are very hard-working people, which has made this little, once known secret, a very popular place to visit- for a Japanese soul food. Gary makes a very special dish fore, I just can't get enough of.The restaurant is very unique and it does not seat many, is always crowded but the food is delicious and there is no such thing as a long wait.I would highly recommend this unique Japanese soul food restaurant to locals and tourists a like.Thank you both so much, Mark, Brandon & Daniel!
MoreDaichan has been one of my absolute favorites for the past 2 years and I keep coming back. I usually order something fish related (tuna poke soba or a poke bowl) and I'm always please with the fish quality, the sauce distribution, the sushi rice - it's always delicious! Of course during covid it's been on and off in-dining, I always do takeout now. The ladies or workers behind the counter are always so pleasant and welcoming, and are very punctual with orders. Love this place and I'm happy to see it surviving these crazy times!
MoreSmall Japanese restaurant. Authentic food. Poki bowls are probably the best bet.
My friends and I travel across the Valley for the veggie Poke Bowl with extra ginger. We love it!!
MoreTHE ONLY PLACE I HAVE FOUND THAT IS AUTHENTIC JAPANESE FOOD
Small intimate unique decor. Food was on par as fresh and tasty. Only wish there was a little bit more for the price. Left happy and satisfied would go again.
MoreMany delicious dishes. The curry and chicken katsu is my favorite. The service is friendly and attentive.Parking is a little difficult unless you valet. Your can also park across the street underground in the self parking to the east.
MoreI love this place, quirky with great Japanese soul food. Always busy, worth the wait.
MoreWould certainly recommend trying this spot. Fantastic character, tasty dishes, awesome customer service. Great work.
MoreFamily run business which makes you feel at home. Food is amazing and authentic Japanese fare. Tastes just like my grandma's cooking! Service is great. It can get packed so go a little early if you're aiming for lunch.
MoreFood was excellent!! Service was a little slow, but not enough to get mad about. The staff was friendly, and like I said the food is excellent! The Toro Poke bowl was ridiculously good!! Great atmosphere and they have been there since 1996, so that should tell you something.
MoreI had the best meal here with my husband. We ordered the tempura, appetizer tofu, edamame, two mixed poke with special rice (I think it was $3 extra for special rice- totally worth it! I daydream dream about that delicious umami rice.) and some hot green teas. The service was excellent and the ambiance was very fun and vibrant. I wish I still lived in LA so I could come here more often but I will always come back to eat here when I'm nearby.
MoreFood is delicious here. I've been getting the mix poke bowl with hijiki seaweed rice and 1.5x portion.
MoreGosh I loved this place. Was soooo impressed with the decor. Food was very good too. Can't wait to take my friends there
MoreThe people are very nice and fast and every time I have been there the food has been excellent. Every time I'm always full and at peace feels like heaven. Love the music they play. Everyone must go here the only Japanese restaurant of all of Los Angeles that's completely different and unique.PS. The watermelon is my favorite thing to get ! :)
MoreHands down local favorite on the East end of the Valley. Closest thing to Japanese Tokyo Cafe eats! Have been going here for years and find myself back within days of returning from Japan. Hospitality never fails even though the crowds continue to grow as time goes on. The quality of food continues to be superb each and every time I visit.
MoreJust came back from Hawaii. I must admit Daichan has the best Hawaii Japanese American foods than hawaii. So fresh and they make their original sauces. The best #poki in LA. When I first discovered this place over 18 years ago, I was so so excited. I am originally from Tokyo - and no restaurant cooked Japanese "soul" foods like they did. They make their own sauce - and they care about water and ingredient qualities. Highly recommended to everyone who miss Japanese Okaasan cooking. #hawaiianJapanese #japaneseSoulFood
MoreIf you want authentic Japanese food, this is the place. I was very impressed by the quality and the attention to detail. We started with the spinach and sesame seed appetizer. Then we had the mixed tempura, which was cooked perfectly. We really liked the nori wrapped tofu appetizer. For the main course, we both went for the Daimyo Chirashi. I would have preferred it served in a bowl rather than a plate, but it was really delicious. I'm picky about sushi rice and this place has it perfect. I think I will start frequenting this restaurant.
MoreOne of the better Japanese food in LA. The sashimi cuts are huge and very fresh. We love the purple potato tempura and poki bowl! Would love to come again if we were to visit LA. Highly recommended!
MoreDaichan is a gem in every way. The food is fantastic from sushi to rice and noodle dishes. Awesome sake list. So affordable for the quality. But definitely what makes it so special is the vibe and the people - the service is so friendly and warm, just like dining in Japan. And the ambience/decor inside is so lovely. Definitely is our favorite all-around spot of the many Japanese restaurants in studio city.
MoreAlthough this restaurant is unique in the Decour and very quaint the food needs a lot of help. The sushi was quite sub par and a little on the fishy side. My friend got a soba noodle dish and it was tasteless. I know they get quite crowded often but I don’t see why won’t be going back anytime soon sorry.
MoreThis restaurant is delicious! The women who work here are also super kind and lovely people. It was a pleasure to get take-out from this restaurant. Can't wait to be able to dine in, as the interior is super cute and makes you feel like you are in Japan!
MoreGreat restaurant that serves Japanese comfort food. Service was wonderful, decor quirky and fun, and food was excellent.
Morethis place is by far one of the best hidden gems in Los Angeles county. Any person who says that he likes Japanese food must come here. I am pretty sure that they are the first people to bring poki to Los Angeles. The ambiance in the place is in, The service is outstanding. Pricing is as fair as it could be. I am very happy that I found out about this place because I bring all of my guests from out of town when they come to visit. I would say this would be the ideal place for a date as well. parking may be a little bit of b*** because you have to pay for valet but it is not overpriced at all. This place is worth so much more than sugar fish down the road.
MoreDelicious Japanese soul food. Extremely nice people. Interesting artifacts on the walls. Don't like the "valet" parking. Oh and valet means that THEY park your can, not charge you $5 to DIY
MoreGood food! Different, interesting. They just got a liquor license and have a Saki sampler!
MoreI absolutely love the food here. I have not found any udon place that tops it yet. It’s my go to comfort restaurant and is always fantastic. They do have long lines because the inside is small but it’s worth it for the food and the interior
MoreMy must to go place when I'm in California, no matter how long it takes me to get there. The poke bowl, the samurai chickend or shrimp and the agedashi tofu is yummy
MoreI tried this place in the past with my friend and I am hooked ever since. I liked the awesome atmosphere and delicious dishes and drinks. They never disappoint.
MoreAmazing food, usually a wait. Fun decor. Family owned.
The best Japanese soul food on the Venture Blvd. If you love home cooking than Daichan is the place.
MoreActual japanese restaurant that doesnt do sushi and really owned by Japanese people. The place itself is really nicely decorated and the employees are super nice. The food is awesome and very authentic.
MoreVery good food
Daichan has a sign on the wall that says they cook the dishes that Japanese people grew up eating. I wish I had grown up Japanese based on what I've eaten here.
MoreAmazing Japanese food, owners and chef are from Kyoto and make food just as good as what we had there! Chicken katsu Curry is so good I almost hate sharing it! Drinks are a fair price. Atmosphere is amazing with photos and sculptures all around the restaurant. Feels like being in Japan (seriously)!!
MoreLove this little place! Everyone is so friendly and great comfort food. I would recommend parking in the neighborhood up the hill during the day since the plaza owner (not Daichan) forces you to valet in the lot.
MoreI had a fantastic time in this place. We loved the nice ambience and the meals. The staff were very friendly. I am glad we finally decided to visit this spot.
MoreFound a hair in my food and they removed the hair and said they don’t see a hair. I loved this place and now I will NEVER sadly go back. Who lies and takes the hair off just to save face...
MoreDelicious Japanese at this little place in Studio City!
Great little spot with great eating options. Call ahead to make reservations it’s small but worth it. Very tasty and great service. Friendly staff and decor make a great ambiance.
Morefor real down home J-Food, 1st generation Japanese owned so you know it's real! like your ba-chan used to make, family run, outstanding food, VERY fresh, great service very very modest prices, huge menu, if i ilived here i would come everyday, mall owner charges $5 for valet, small lot, the place next door, Sugarfish, is way more $$$ and food is not fresh or as good,
MoreThis place has nothing on Sugarfish next door.
restaurant was extremely popular, there was a bit of wait on a Friday night. valet parking. we had black fish w miso & tofu, chirashi, and stuffed lotus root. best dish has to be the fish. fish was well executed, even tofu was Great. the raw fish in chirashi was fresh, lotus root was also good. price is not cheap, but reasonable.
MoreJapanese home cooking style restaurant. Not a sushi bar. If you're from Japan and homesick, got a craving for home cooking. This is the spot!
MoreOne of my absolutely favorite restaurants.Been coming here 20 years and never tire of it.It is very authentic. Owned by Japanese couple who named the place after their son. The food is fresh and cooked to order. The menu is quite larfe and the food is delicious. You will find items here that yiu do not normally fi d in other Japanes restsurants. My personal fave is KawChi Chicken. Prices are so fair. Dishes range from $10 - $15. The place is really cute with lots of Japanese decor. The service is great. They are so friendly
MoreWould absolutely recommend trying out this place. Awesome character, tasty dishes, excellent customer service. They never disappoint.
